J&M Monitoring, Inc. has been involved in coal mining permitting and environmental impact assessments since 1985 through it's founder or corporate entity. During that time many breakthroughs in treatment of acid mine drainage have been discovered in the laboratory of J&M Monitoring, Inc. as well as through a research agreement with the University of Kentucky Research Foundation. This partnership began when UKRF called J&M to inquire about treatment technologies that could be developed through a strategic alliance between UKRF and J&M. Research soon began on the use and further development of a chelating ligand that would chemically bind heavy metals in acid mine drainage "AMD".
J&M had already been working on insitu remediation of AMD and was excited to test the ligand UKRF had developed for AMD treatment. The tests were successful and a patent was issued shortly afterward. Given that there were less expensive options for AMD treatment further development and production are still pending. However, the good news is that the "Exodus System" was a great success and is still a viable option for insitu treatment of AMD today.
